On the 26th of March, 26 PROBUS members/guests took a tour of the White Meadows Farm sugar bush. We survived the sudden torrential downpour that started just before boarding the wagons that took us into the woods. Luckily the wagons were fully covered and sheltered us from the rain, and by the time we arrived the rain had stopped. We were then led on a guided tour through beautiful woods, stopping at various stations along the way, where we learned about the history and evolution of maple syrup production. Our guide was an excellent speaker with a great sense of humour, which made the tour very entertaining. We had an opportunity to taste taffy on snow as well as several of the farm’s maple syrup products, and to saw off a slice of log in the traditional way and have it stamped with a maple leaf to keep as a souvenir. After the tour, we headed over to the Grill on Canboro where we socialized for another couple of hours while enjoying dinner and drinks.
