Cycling Group
What we do:
The focus of this group is having fun while riding bicycles. This of course includes some serious non-riding time at some of Niagara’s greatest food places and viewing attractions along the way. Our pace is slow and we try to keep together and pick flat routes on low volume roads or off-roads trails. If separation does occur we wait at a safe convenient stop for everyone to collect. No one is left behind. For most rides the total distance covered is about 30 km.
Where we meet:
The start locations vary across Niagara and always have convenient parking if you have to motor to the ride start point. Examples of ride locations have included the Port Robinson Ferry, Lock 3 Museum or the International Flat Water Centre if we’re planning to bike along the Welland Recreation Canal Trail. Google map links to the start locations of each ride are given on the Ride Information and Routes webpage and the Ride Schedule for the current year.
When we meet:
Rides are scheduled to occur once a week on Tuesdays. If a different day of the week is required then the ride leader is required to send out an e-mail to the group. Starts times are set at 10:00am in the spring and fall to benefit from a warmer sun, then during the summer we have an early ride at 9:00am to avoid some of the mid-day heat. We try to arrive at the start location 15 minutes before the ride begins to allow time to get organized and talk about the route.
How large a group are we:
There are presently 40 members and guests in the group and we usually have anywhere from 10 to 15 cyclists out on each ride – but there’s always room for more and everyone is welcomed. Give us a try by submitting your interest on the Contact the Group link at the bottom of this page. Your name will be placed on an e-mail list used by the ride leaders if necessary regarding ride information.
Ride Schedule and Route Details:
Ride notification and ride details are now placed in advance on a Ride Schedule for the current year, which provides the date, start time and location, ride description and ride leaders for the entire ride season. If any modifications for a ride are necessary these can be made by the ride leader through the e-mail list of members (e.g. new rides not scheduled, new start locations, changed date or time). Further details such as cue sheet route maps for 22 scheduled rides are given here Ride Information and Routes.
